I was shocked by your message that Dave Rogala passed away so unexpectedly last Friday. This is a great loss, in the first place for his family, but also for NVRA and Intersteno. He was a good friend in our community, always giving his professional opinion and helping us where possible to achieve our goals.
I knew him for many years, corresponded with him regularly and met him on a number of occasions. The last occasion was in The Hague, where he attended the IPRS meeting. He enjoyed his stay in Holland and his contact with so many other colleagues very much. I was proud being his host during his visit to my home. He brought me some nice presents.
I will keep them in his honour and remember him as a dear friend. He passed away much too early and nobody could expect that. One can say he was a workaholic, but he lived a healthy live, always jogging, not smoking and taking care of himself. It may sound queer but I remember especially his feet.
During his attendance of the Council meeting in Antalya he wore sandals on his bare feet, because his suitcase with his "official" clothes was not delivered. In that suitcase were a number of copies of his book which he wanted to hand out as a present. He couldn’t do that. His suitcase was sent back to his home.
He could have done so much more, but it was God's will to call him to heaven so early. We can say that this was unfair, but who are we to put a question mark to God's decisions?
For all of us and also for me personally his passing away is a great loss, butwe have to accept it. Be so kind to pass on my condolences to the Board of NVRA and, if it possible for you, to his family.
You and I and all our common friends will remember Dave as our dear friend as long as we live.
Kind greetings,
Cees van Beurden
