In Memory of David J. Rogala
Intersteno Representative

Everybody has met Dave and was impressed by his friendship, open mind and willingness to share ideas and motivate people in our technologies.   He was very expert in many of our fields and surely we have lost one of the persons who could help us in facing the future.  I will keep him in my memory and I am sure that many of us will share with us the deep sorrow.
~~Gian Paolo Trivulzio (President Intersteno, Italy)
For the second time this year, we receive the terribly sad news of the suddenly and totally unexpected passing away of one of our dear Intersteno friends. I want to express my condolences to the family of Dave and to the NVRA. We will miss his wise words, his well documented comments in discussions,  his professionalism and enthusiasm, his humor and his friendship. It was a pleasure for all of us to have Dave with us at the IPRS meeting in The Hague last summer, not knowing that this would be the last time we could meet, discuss and talk together about a lot of things. Just today Cees sent us his report of this meeting, at which Dave contributed – as usual – in the best way. We will never forget Dave!
Sad regards,

THE HAGUE,  APRIL 21TH 2009

Last Friday Mr Van Beurden sent us a mail with the terrible, sad news that Dave Rogala passed away in his sleep on Friday the 10th of April. The news shocked us.

We met Dave last summer here in The Hague: a pleasant and sparkling person, dedicated to his profession. It is unbelievable that he won’t join the congresses of Intersteno and in particular the IPRS-meetings again. That is a great loss for all of us.

But of course it is an incredibly big loss for his family. I therefore ask you friendly to convey our condoleances to Dave’s family. We will never forget Dave.

With sincere greetings,

Rian Schwarz, teamcoördinator of the Parliamentary Reporting Office of the Dutch Parliament (House of Representatives and Senate)

José Hageman, head of the Parliamentary Reporting Office of the Dutch Parliament (House of Representatives and Senate)

I was shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by this news.  There were a multitude of things Dave & I did not see eye to eye on, but no question about his passion and integrity and commitment to advancing the art and professionalism of realtime.

I am just shocked, cannot believe this ... I have no words at all.

Yesterday I was informed by Mr. Trivulzio about the death of Dave Rogala. He was a friend of mine and a good colleague, met last year in occasion of IPRS meeting in the Hague. He was happy and very gentle, like in other experiences spent together like the previous one in Czech Republic.

He also was an expert in his field, that is also the mine, and I remember his character. I prayed for him and his parents, so that they can find peace in their hearts.

My best regards,  Fabrizio G. Verruso
I can’t believe that our friend Dave has passed away. I remember him as a man of good health, always friendly and with a lot of good ideas.
The German group of Intersteno is very sad. We will keep him in our mind.
Yours Waltraut Dierks
Dear friends,

The Dutch Group of Intersteno sends you their sincere condolences with the totally unexpected death of Dave Rogala. It was a shock to those members of our Group who knew Dave and had contacts with him to learn that Dave passed away. We all admired his professionality and his worthy contributions to the work of Intersteno. This is a great loss, in the first place for his family, but also for NVRA and Intersteno. We will always remember him as a dear friend.

For me personally this sad news was even more shocking, because I knew Dave for a long time and had many contacts with him. I admired the long emails he sent to me, answering my questions. I was very pleased to meet him again in The Hague, during the IPRS meeting and receiving him at my home. I will never forget his dedication and friendship.

Kind regards,
Cees van Beurden
I sincerely sympathize. This is a great loss for the whole family Interstena.
We send our condolences to his family.  We will remember him with special respect.

Dear Intersteno family, I have received your news with great sadness.
Recorder Dave was a very loving and kind person. (Not sure about the next sentence.)

~~Slovak group of Intersteno
I was shocked by your message that Dave Rogala passed away so unexpectedly last Friday. This is a great loss, in the first place for his family, but also for NVRA and Intersteno. He was a good friend in our community, always giving his professional opinion and helping us where possible to achieve our goals.

I knew him for many years, corresponded with him regularly and met him on a number of occasions. The last occasion was in The Hague, where he attended the IPRS meeting. He enjoyed his stay in Holland and his contact with so many other colleagues very much. I was proud being his host during his visit to my home. He brought me some nice presents.

I will keep them in his honour and remember him as a dear friend. He passed away much too early and nobody could expect that. One can say he was a workaholic, but he lived a healthy live, always jogging, not smoking and taking care of himself. It may sound queer but I remember especially his feet.

During his attendance of the Council meeting in Antalya he wore sandals on his bare feet, because his suitcase with his "official"  clothes was not delivered. In that suitcase were a number of copies of his book which he wanted to hand out as a present.  He couldn’t do that. His suitcase was sent back to his home.

He could have done so much more, but it was God's will to call him to heaven so early. We can say that this was unfair, but who are we to put a question mark to God's decisions?

For all of us and also for me personally his passing away is a great loss, butwe have to accept it. Be so kind to pass on my condolences to the Board of NVRA and, if it possible for you, to his family.

You and I and all our common friends will remember Dave as our dear friend as long as we live.

Kind greetings,
Cees van Beurden
I'm shocked with this sad news and unexpected loss.

I can only repeat the words already used by Gian Paolo, Danny, Jaroslav: friendship, humor, open mind, enthusiasm, sharing ideas, expert in a lot of fields, a reliable person for the future of Intersteno...

Please receive my condolences that I express to you as a friend, to the NVRA and to his family.

I will never forget him.

Friendly regards
Georgette Sante
I was abroad and I read only now the sad news about Dave Rogala. It is terrible and so surprising ; he was so young !  I remember when he presented for the first time the "stenomask", he was so enthusiastic. It is a great loss for his parents and for Intersteno.
The Group of Intersteno-France will never forget him.

Best regards,
Jacqueline Bertin-Mahieux
Présidente Intersteno-France
I am shocked to hear that Dave has passed away. When losing Franz in January, it was really bad, but Dave, the youngest of us all?

The worst thing about death is that it is final. No more chance to share moments, places or ideas. No more chance to enjoy each other's presence, laughter, plans or whatever else. Everything, we should have done, comes to my mind but also the good moments we shared. Intersteno and we all have lost more than a voice or a face; we have lost one of our spirits. We will miss him, not only now, but surely in the future when we meet and realise that he cannot be with us in person.

We are very sorry,
Boris and Monika
I am greatly shocked about Dave's premature passing away. I will remember forever for his human and professional relationship.

Danke Danny, für die Kondolenze an NVRA.
Wir haben bereits (vorläufig nur auf Tschechisch) unsere Erinnerungen auf Dave erarbeitet

Thanks, Danny, for the condolences of NVRA. We have gathered (provisionally in Czech) our memories of Dave developed.

My sincere condolences with the death of Dave Rogala.
I was shocked all day when I got the message.

Dave and I met at the IPRS meeting in The Hague last year and since then we had very good contacts. As I am promoting court reporting in the Netherlands, he shared a lot of information with me about the court reporting system in the USA.

Actually we had a long conversation on Skype on April 5th, when he told me that he was busy with a project of yours (S&P).
And we agreed that he would do transcriptions of digital (English spoken) sound files of depositions in a major contract I just have been granted: the investigation of the Fortis/ABN-Amro case.

And when I told him I plan to attend the annual convention of the NCRA in Washington in August this year, he offered  to be my tour guide in his home city...
It's all so sad!

Best regards,
Lida Horlings
